The compliance clock

Under the 2024 DOJ final rule on ADA Title II (28 CFR Part 35, Subpart H), state and local governments must meet WCAG 2.1 AA on web content and mobile apps by:

Population ≥ 50,000
April 24, 2026
Larger cities, most counties — enforcement active.
Population < 50,000 + special districts
April 24, 2027
Smaller cities, townships, library districts, school districts, special districts — 12 months to prepare.
